More about Baumera

Baumera Greenhouses

Baumera builds greenhouses for northern European weather, using galvanised steel framing and UV protected polycarbonate glazing. The design leans towards clean lines and practical detailing rather than ornament, which is why the range suits contemporary gardens as readily as traditional ones.

Galvanised steel is the defining choice. It is heavier than aluminium and stiffer for a given section, which matters on exposed sites where wind load is the main structural concern. The zinc coating is what keeps it from corroding, so it is worth avoiding deep scratches during assembly.

Glazing and Climate

Twin wall polycarbonate does two things glass does not. The air gap inside the sheet insulates, so the house holds warmth longer into the evening and loses less overnight. And the cell structure diffuses light rather than transmitting it directly, which reduces the risk of scorching plants sitting close to the panel.

It also does not shatter, which is a practical consideration in a garden used by children or on a site where a football is a realistic hazard. The trade off is light transmission: polycarbonate passes less than glass, and that shows most in midwinter.

Several models offer automatic roof ventilation. If yours does not, an automatic vent opener can usually be retrofitted and does the same job without power.

Assembly

Baumera greenhouses arrive as kits with instructions, and the steel profiles are designed to bolt together in a fixed sequence. Two people and a level base make the job straightforward. One person on uneven ground makes it considerably harder, and a frame assembled out of square will not glaze cleanly.

Prepare the base before delivery rather than after. Level, drained and square is the requirement, and an anchor kit should go in during assembly rather than afterwards.

Choosing a Size

The range runs from compact models suited to a small garden up to larger houses with room for staging on both sides. If you are unsure, the size guide sets out what each floor area actually allows in terms of layout.

As a rule, growers regret buying too small more often than too large. The cost difference between adjacent sizes is usually smaller than the cost of replacing a frame two seasons later.

Fitting Out

A new house is an empty one. Staging along one side and a bed along the other is the standard arrangement, and planning it before assembly is easier than adapting afterwards. For winter use, the insulation range covers bubble sheet and fleece.
