What Makes a Greenhouse Portable
A portable greenhouse is any structure designed to be assembled, taken down and moved without permanent foundations. Frames are steel tubing or light aluminium, and covers are reinforced PE plastic or thin polycarbonate panels. Most go up without tools and come down in minutes.
Sizes run from small tiered units that sit on a bench up to walk in frames. What they share is that nothing is fixed to the ground permanently, so the whole thing can be repositioned as the garden changes.
When Portability Is the Point
Three situations make this the right choice. Renting, where a permanent structure is not allowed. Allotment plots with rules about fixed buildings. And gardens where the sunniest spot moves through the year or where the layout is still being worked out.
It also suits growers who only need cover for part of the year. A frame that comes down in October is not exposed to winter storms, which is often what ends the life of a light structure left standing.
The Trade Offs
Light weight is what makes a greenhouse portable and also what makes it vulnerable. There is no mass holding it down, so ground fixings do all the work.

Daily Management
A light covered frame heats and cools faster than glass. Open it in the morning and close it in the evening, and in summer check watering daily, since containers under plastic dry out quickly.
Where you cannot be there every day, shade netting over the top takes the peak off and reduces the risk of losing a whole tray to one hot afternoon.
Choosing Between Formats
A pop up greenhouse goes up faster and packs smaller but is the least robust. A rigid portable frame stands longer and holds shape better. A polytunnel covers far more ground for the money if the site allows it.
